About Us
“We are a loving community of faith, who follow Jesus Christ and serve those in need.”
Welcome to Calvary! Whether you are a first-time visitor or your family has been part of our congregation for generations, we appreciate you taking the time to learn more about us. Nestled in the cornfields of DeKalb County, in Northern Illinois, Calvary is a warm and welcoming church where faith in God’s Word is at the center of everything we do. We are more than just a church; we are a family—united by our love for God and one another, supporting and encouraging each other to grow in faith and serve Christ.
As a member of the Lutheran Church, our theology is grounded in God’s grace, salvation through faith in Christ alone, and the call to share the Gospel with all nations. We offer Biblical teaching steeped in the Lutheran tradition and strive to be a faithful community that reaches out to share the Good News, both locally and globally.
Calvary is an oasis, a place to step away from the busyness of life and focus on your relationship with God. Whether you are a lifelong believer or just beginning to explore your faith, you will find a welcoming home here.
Affiliation
We are a member of Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LCMC). We are involved in the mission of the Church around the world. We have the distinct Lutheran identity as we teach Grace Alone, Faith Alone, Word Alone and Christ Alone.
God
We believe and teach there is one God who is the Creator of us and all that exists. God has revealed Himself to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
The Bible
We believe and teach that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and authoritative source and norm of the church’s proclamation, faith and life. The truth we learn in the Bible is both reliable and dependable for believing and living as followers of Jesus Christ.
Faithful Living
Christians are called by God to live faithful lives following the example and teachings of Jesus Christ. We are empowered by the Holy Spirit to live lives of purpose. We share in our resources of time, resources and abilities to further the Kingdom of God; helping those in need and sharing the Gospel with all people.
